ICE News Opinion: We Need To Go Nuclear

The Democrats have done it, repeatedly. The Republicans have to be just as committed to their ideology. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can employ the ‘nuclear option” to stop Democrats from filibustering to prevent a vote on the Iran pact. Do they have the guts?

ICE News Editor – RK

It is nothing short of disgraceful that Senate Democrats are preventing a vote on one of the most important nuclear weapons agreements in history. Especially after having agreed to a vote of every senator and congressman as is usually done in instances like this.

I have to believe senate minority leaders senators Harry Reid and Dick Durbin believe historical precedent doesn’t count when they will lose an important vote.

But, of course, this is street fighting at its ugliest: Doing anything to retain power and expand government control over the “unwashed masses” is what the Democrat Party is all about.

Their GOP opponents too often do battle with the Left with one eye on the media – scared witless over media criticism. Republicans crave well wishes, even love and understanding from media talking heads.

Gutless wonders – most of them, at least.

Republicans in the other chamber (House) with nerve – who listen to what their base demands of them – have called on “The World’s Greatest Deliberative Body” (the Senate) to show some guts and start acting like, in fact they are, leaders of both houses.

Mitch McConnell is a fat-cat, establishment RINO who will, apparently, do anything to retain his power, his senate seat and leadership in the Senate.

To hell with the GOP’s conservative base.

Last week, Rep. Steven Palazzo, (R-Miss) urged McConnell to follow the example of ex-majority leader Harry Reid when Democrats controlled Senate. Using Reid’s “nuclear option” will change Senate rules to prevent Democrats, who now have the needed 42 votes, from filibustering to block the Iran resolution from being brought to the floor.

Palazzo wrote: If Reid was willing to use this tactic to push through something as simple as judicial nominees despite the objections of Republicans, it is time that Republican leadership utilizes the procedure as a matter of national and global security. I implore you to use every tool at your disposal to stop what could be the most dangerous foreign decision in decades.

The filibuster, “nuclear option” dates back to the 1970s. It allows a simple majority to stop the Iran agreement. Requiring a super majority on a matter of great importance is irresponsible, improper and offensive to the majority rule and can be damaging to our republic.

The Democrats under Obama and Reid used the option because they could and they used it with impunity. Will McConnell have the balls?

I hope so, but I doubt it…

Americans by a significant majority oppose Obama’s nuclear surrender to Iran. Many of them fear for the future existence of Israel and peace in the Middle East; of a nuclear arms race and possible nuclear war.

Republicans are in the majority in both houses. Yet the GOP establishment – read RINOs still get cold feet and capitulate to the Left and their flunkies in the media every time push gets to shove.

Hey, McConnell and the rest of your establishment Republicans in the Senate: Grow a pair!
